Youmacon has always been one of my favorite conventions and I have attended it for the past 4 years. The convention center does have a confusing layout but after a day, you get used to it. It takes place at the Renaissance Center (Ren Cen) and Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan around the first weekend of November.
Youmacon 2014 was the 10 year anniversary of the first Youmacon so this year was exciting. More people came then the previous years with around 16,300 attendees and plenty of guests and cos-famous people among them. I personally enjoyed the con and met plenty of amazing people . While I didn't actually cosplay at the con, I got to see plenty of amazing cosplayers. The way the con was being run this year was a bit disorganized but meeting so many people and going to the rave was well worth it. One place to meet people is the food court at the convention center, which includes a McDonalds (open all night), Burger King, Subway, and many other restaurants. For gamers, the game room has plenty of games for you and it is open 24/7 so you can play to your hearts content. If you plan on attending Youmacon I will recommend spending the money and getting a people mover pass since the two buildings the con is held in are a bit of a walk and if you are in cosplay all day the walking will hit you hard the next day. (So much soreness!!!)
For cosplay photographers who haven't been there or cosplayers wondering about the locations, the area at and around the Renaissance Center are beautiful to shoot, especially the River Walk. For those of you wondering about the rave: Youmacon has great DJ's at their rave but like most conventions the Saturday night rave is much better than the Friday night rave. Overall, the con is amazing, the people are nice, and the staff are relatively chill. I don't remember anyone being rude or obnoxious (except for a few drunk people one of the nights) but this is just my opinion. Stay safe and I hope you attend! :)
